The Perfect Coordinates Outfit Tutorial

Hey everyone, I'm back ! This time with a double tutorial ! I'm calling it the perfect coordinates outfit because i think it's a perfect way to showcase 2 coordinating fabrics.

The top is easy to get on a wiggly body and has no buttons, zippers or any other kinds of closures. It simply knots at the top.

The shorts have a flat front ,an elastic back and shirred legs....and of course an extra cute bow in the front. It only took a yard of my main fabric and a quarter of coordinating fabric to make. The pattern is in size 6-9 months.

Enjoy these free patterns and tutorial after the jump

First download and print all your pattern pieces

Top front front neckline   back  back neckline  ***make sure you extend the front and back by an inch
Shorts front back

Lets start with the top

1. Take your neckline pieces and lay them right sides together. Sew around the perimeter. Leaving a 5 1/2 inch opening on each. Fold over excess from opening and set aside

2. Sew the front and back top pieces at the sides. Then finish the armholes they way you like. I made bias tape from the main fabric.
(Forgot to take a picture)

3.Grab you neck line pieces. Pleat or gather your front and back piece until it fits into the 5 1/2 inch opening. Pin and top stitch around the entire neckline.

Now the top is finished ! Time to move on to the shorts

1. You need to cut 4 rectangles.
  • Waist band front 3.5 x 11.5 in (main fabric)
  • waistband back 3.5 x 17 in (coordinating fabric)
  • (2)side panels 3.5 x 8 in (coordinating fabric)

2. Match front with front and back with back. Sew along the curve

3. Sew the side panels to the back of the shorts piece.

4.Fold both the front and back waistband in half. Fold as if you're making bias tape. Sew the front waistband to the front short piece and do the same with the back. Feed elastic through the back piece.

5. Finish the shorts by sewing the side seams and crotch. Hem and add 5 rows of shirring ...or elastic to the legs.Take some scrap coordinating fabric and sew on a little bow.

Now your Perfect Coordinates Outfit is complete .
